On the face, this is not particularly offensive if the class exists primarily within the AMYA. But if 99 percent of class boat owners are not AMYA members, and the class specification is approved by a multi-country class organization — then this practice is divisive. As we all know, there are enough challenges to growing and maintaining an RC sailboat class. It is confusing to newcomers and unnecessarily thumbs-a-nose to larger class organizations. In the past, AMYA members who own one of these two large classes have not attempted to change the class specifications within AMYA, even though they could. But now, a splinter group from the Nirvana class is proposing to vote on a class specification that is not in compliance with the international class rule that Nirvana follows — and tomorrow, it could be the RC Laser specification coming under attack. We see no positive outcome of such a practice and think AMYA should exempt class specifications from AMYA voting where a superior class rule is in effect. We are looking for your input on this seemingly unnecessary and class splitting action by AMYA. We encourage you to post your comments to this article. Fold in Your Sail?

Just back up to any implement, click, click, and drive away! What I discovered is that many of my implements would not attach to the Quick Hitch. Removing the Quick Hitch to use those implements just added more work and busted knuckles. The only way any of the Quick Hitch devices will work as advertised, is if all your implements will easily attach to it.

Print Three months into his tenure as secretary of state, Rex Tillerson alarmed veteran diplomats with remarks that sounded like a potential shift in American foreign policy: The comment, at a gathering of State Department employees, provoked an outcry among former U. Cranking It Up The first modification was to increase the voltage to the motor. More voltage with available amperage means a faster spinning motor. Faster motor means more rounds down range, or into a co-workers face, as the case may be. That’s an expensive number of big cells. When wired, they yield about 9v. To connect the battery packs to the gun, we actually had to make a little tool. The power terminals are too deep inside the gun to clip on the alligator clips, so I took apart a ball point pen, slit up the side, put a compressed alligator clip in it with the lead hanging out the slit.
I put the alligator clip on the battery terminal and then pushed a tie-wrap or chopstick through the back of the pen, slipping the alligator clip out and hooking it on to the power terminals. Add Tip Ask Question Step 3: Wiring the Beast Hook the battery packs together like in the photo.

The views in this post do not necessarily reflect the views of SSPH! We used friction to our advantage when belaying or surging, and we reduced friction as much as possible when hauling or striking sail. It was aboard these big boats that I was first introduced to Jan Adkins. Simple forces applied intelligently should carry the day. This is no snub of wile or cleverness or inventiveness, only a caution against dissipating your efforts in the bother and friction of complication.
Elizabeth, our former 28ft cutter was rigged simply. We prefer it that way. What we enjoyed most about sailing Elizabeth was the ease with which her sails went up, came down and reefed. The battenless main allowed her slugs to slide effortlessly up the track.

Trouble Shooting, Diagnoses and Cures for Common Boat Speed Ailments J 24s exhibit subtle but important individual differences that affect each of these three components, so rather than simply offering a set of simple recipes for maximizing your boat speed, this guide also explains why we make the recommendations that we do, so that you’ll know how to adjust our recommendations to fit your J Boat preparation focuses on the bottom, the rig, the deck layout, and the interior.
The aim is to optimize the dynamic balance of the lifting surfaces keel, rudder, hull, and sails ; and the distribution of weight. Bottom Preparation Bottom preparation is toilsome work. If you do it yourself, you feel it in the lower back and arms; if you have it done professionally, you feel it in your wallet. Either way it is costly. But the investment in bottom preparation, especially in the keel, is essential for optimum performance: Keel preparation is especially critical and difficult.

Other functions[ edit ] In some communities a fire apparatus, often a paramedic engine, will be used to carry first responder firefighters, paramedics or EMTs to medical emergencies because of their faster response times due to forward staging in the city. Design and construction[ edit ] National Forests Office France fire engine with roll-over protection structure The design and construction of fire engines focuses greatly on the use of both active and passive warnings.
Passive visual warnings involve the use of high contrast patterns to increase the noticeability of the vehicle. These types of warnings are often seen on older vehicles and those in developing countries.

Sheet-to-Tiller Self Steering This page describes a simple, inexpensive way to make a sailboat steer itself using wind power. It was inspired by a posting by Al Gunther in the newsgroup rec. The following text and photos are courtesy of Al. Overview Sheet-to-tiller steering capitalizes on the simple principle that the same forces that cause a sailboat to go off course, are used to steer in a counteracting direction to keep it on it’s desired course.
When properly adjusted, there is an almost magical feeling that the boat is “on rails” as John Letcher described it in his book Self-Steering for Sailing Craft back in Most sailboats are designed so that the helm is balanced in light air, but weatherhelm increases as the angle of heel increases due to the force of the wind on the sails.
This causes most boats to round up into the wind so the rudder is used to keep the boat on course. The same force on the sails that cause this rounding up, can be transmitted directly through a line and blocks to the tiller, to keep the boat on course.

It does not take much to starat bending or flexing this so called hitch mount, and I would have to believe that that extension as in the first image would put a ot of stress on the hitch. One time I was dead set on converting ll my hitches to ball type, but the biggest obstacle I ran into was getting the coupler portions in sizes that would fit various towed items tongue widths, without having to drastically modify the tongues with shims etc to fit the couplers.
Its also easy to overload them instead of just having the hitch pin type tongue top section start to bend a bit when overloaded, you have a tendancy to not take notice sometimes. Yo know how it is, just a few more shovel fulls or a few more rocks should be OK, and thats all it takes to reach or exceed that max limit. Its not hard to raise a ball up to sufficient height.
Always use the correct size and type of lynch pins. Most are 7/16 x /4″ usable length, inside the loop. Buy a supply of these and keep a few in the tool box on each tractor.

The RTR05, and all reverse rotation tillers, tends to achieve greater depth of penetration, moving and pulverizing more soil in the process, while burying residue as opposed to leaving it on top. The offset capabilities allow the tiller to work closer to objects such as fence lines, buildings, or trees.

Tractors The 3-Point hitch system for rear attached implements is both loved and hated. We all love the relative consistency and compatibility between rear attachments and tractors. Essentially every tractor made in the last 30 years has a 3-point hitch. This level of compatibility is extremely valuable, allowing manufacturers to freely innovate on both sides of the hitch. Unfortunately, while the 3-Point Hitch is nearly universally compatible, challenges remain.
One of those challenges is the ease of attaching 3 pt attachments.
